Research and Innovation Services supports the development, delivery, and impact of research across City St George’s. The Directorate brings together specialist teams who provide end-to-end support - from securing funding to managing partnerships and commercialising outcomes.
We work with City St George’s researchers and external partners to provide a professional support service to enable research and innovation. Research and Innovation Services operate a business partnering support model, with staff in most teams aligned to City St George’s six Schools.

This team provides comprehensive support throughout the development and submission of research funding applications. The team are also responsible for the dissemination of research funding opportunities, research security and due diligence issues.
This specialist team provides support for the set-up, governance and management of clinical research studies, ensuring all research is conducted in line with regulatory standards.
City St George’s provides clinical research management and governance support jointly with St George’s, Epsom and St Helier Hospital Group through the JCRO. All University researchers undertaking clinical research projects are supported, for local, national and international clinical research studies.
Responsible for overseeing the financial lifecycle of research and innovation projects, this team works with researchers to ensure effective financial management in accordance with funder terms and conditions and in liaison with funding bodies.
The Contracts team negotiates, drafts, and facilitates agreements that underpin research and innovation activity, ensuring that contracts are put in place with all partners to enable research and innovation and protect the researcher’s and University’s interests.
This team facilitates consultancy and partnerships with external organisations, contract research, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and a wide range of knowledge‑exchange activities that extend the university’s impact both within the UK and worldwide.
Focused on protecting and commercialising the university’s research outputs, this team manages patents, licensing, spinouts, and the development of new Intellectual property opportunities.
City Ventures offers entrepreneurship education and support programmes for students, alumni and the City of London startup community, including two modern co‑working incubators at Better Space (127 Farringdon Road) and Venture Space (Bayes Business School, Bunhill Row).
